Honeymoon trip to Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Japan 1 2 3 4 5 6

Today is my birthday and we are off on a minibus to Halong Bay, the Unesco World Heritage wonder of north Vietnam. We booked this part of the trip with Vietnam Tour, and had them book us a trip on Oriental Sails Calypso junk boat. On the boat we met quite a few Australians and New Zealanders - Vietnam is a popular destination for them. This included one guy from some outback that I could not, for the life of me, understand. I felt horrible asking him to repeat something three times before saying "I am sorry, I have no idea what you are saying".

Rice paddies on the way to the bay.
Boarding the little boat that took us to our "junk"
The cabin - my first (and so far only) cruise!
The life is good on a boat in Halong Bay. The scenery is breathtaking, the weather was beautiful, and the water was calm.
Little artsy shot + editing
We also visited the Cave of Awe, Hang Sung Sot, including its famous "penis" rock.
Dinner on boat with one of the passengers. This one was British so I understood him no problem. The flowers are carrots.
Sunset in Halong bay.

I woke up early and walked up to the desolate deck to watch the sun rise. Shortly after, group of passangers met for a morning tai-chi session. After breakfast and a quick swim we departed to Titop island, which has a nice beach and a great view of the bay. Walking up to the observation tower was quite an ordeal. It was insanely hot and humid as the pictures below probably show.

Trip to Titop island.
It was brutally hot walking up but the views were worth it!
